RESIDE | Rumer Willis’ Favorite Things

Earlier this year, actress Rumer Willis surprised fans by being the woman—and voice—behind an elaborate lion costume on Fox TV’s singing-competition show The Masked Singer. Willis has been bitten by the singing bug, and now the former Dancing with the Stars winner is heading to the music studio to record an album later this year. The music, she says, will be inspired by Amy Winehouse, and aims to “take jazz and make it more digestible for a new generation.” Later this year, Willis will hit the big screen in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a film from Quentin Tarantino. RESIDE | Jean Nouvel’s Doha Masterpiece

At the National Museum of Qatar, the newest masterwork by Pritzker Prize–winning architect Jean Nouvel, history unfolds like the petals of an intoxicating, exotic flower. The 361,861-square-foot concrete-and-steel museum, which opened in the capital city of Doha in March, boldly embraces the past. Its spectacular, saucer-shaped discs form a necklace whose ends are clasped by the historic palace of Sheik Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, son of the founder of modern Qatar. Nouvel’s design was inspired by the aptly named desert rose, a flower-like aggregate of mineral crystals that forms only in the country’s coastal regions. RESIDE | Food First, Shopping Second

In-store restaurants aren’t new: For decades, spots like the Zodiac at Neiman Marcus in Dallas have let shoppers unwind over a glass of wine and a salad. But now, more retail locations are including upscale eateries, hiring celebrity chefs, and developing elaborate menus that emphasize freshness and seasonality. These restaurants are becoming dining destinations in their own right, drawing customers who come for the food first and the shopping second. Some began as additions to existing shops, while others were developed in tandem with boutiques, offering customers a holistic experience. RESIDE | Paint it Black

Shading your walls in black may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re considering paint colors. But black has a daring all its own that can bring character and chicness to your space. “The result is both unexpected and incredibly sophisticated,” says Andrea Magno, a Benjamin Moore color and design expert. “Black has an interesting effect on the walls of a room because the corners and shadows are obscured more than if a midtone or pastel color is used,” Magno says. RESIDE | Nightlife in Rio

While the world knows Rio de Janeiro—Brazil’s second-largest city and Instagram darling—simply as Rio, Brazilians prefer another name: Cidade Maravilhosa, the Marvelous City. Indeed, this city of over six million people sparkles with unmatched marvels. From picturesque beaches to steep green peaks and rounded verdant isles, all under the gaze of that iconic and sacred white-stone statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado mountain, there is never a dull scene. But though it shines in sunlight, it pulses under the moon. Continue reading RESIDE | Nightlife in Rio at Sotheby´s International Realty | Blog.

RESIDE | Engineering the World’s Tallest Building

In this era of megatall skyscraper construction around the world, Jeddah Tower is the first that aims to exceed the previously undreamed-of one-kilometer threshold. When it is completed in 2020, the 1,000-meter tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, designed by architect Adrian Smith, will become the world’s tallest building, easily eclipsing Burj Khalifa, the 830-meter-tall Dubai skyscraper, also designed by Smith. Jeddah Tower, previously known as Kingdom Tower, will be the signature tower that welcomes pilgrims to Jeddah, the gateway to Mecca and Medina.
